Brownsville, TX (April 28, 2020) –– Local Rio Grande Valley (RGV) restaurant, Wing Barn will not open Friday, May 1, despite Texas Gov. Greg Abbot’s permission to operate restaurants at a 25% capacity. They will continue to offer curbside pick up, to-go, and delivery service.
“We’re not ready to open our dining rooms just yet,” said Bobby Saenz, Wing Barn Owner. We are family-owned and operated; we consider our employees family; When we open, we want to feel 100% certain and right now we are still developing a plan to keep our employees and customers safe.”
Wing Barn seating capacity is about 100. On a usual day, the stores can employ up to 10 staff or more; therefore, with the 25% capacity rule, only 15 customers could be allowed in at a time. Also, Wing Barn has gone from 20% takeout to 100% curbside.
“Having to pivot to a new business plan and do so quickly has brought its challenges,” says Saenz. “However, we’re up for the challenge and our team is adapting as best we can.”
Wing Barn will use this time to solidify their safety plans, so that when Gov. Abbot opens restaurants to 50% capacity, they can open in store dining and service both in store and to-go/curbside customers safely. Wing Barn is a locally owned, family business. Since 2010, Wing Barn has opened seven locations across the Rio Grande Valley, including in: Olmito, McAllen, Harlingen and Edinburg. Two more locations are scheduled to open in 2020 in San Juan, TX and Weslaco, TX. Wing Barn prides itself on being a local, family-owned and operated restaurant that offers hand made food.
